Double Dashi
The most visually distinctive restaurant Chennai has seen in years — and the hardest to explain in a sentence. Double Dashi is a neon-lit izakaya inspired by Tokyo, with ramen as the centrepiece and a hidden zero-proof speakeasy bar as the twist. The walls are covered in anime posters and Rajinikanth film stills from Japan — a collision of cultures that could only be a BORN concept. The name comes from dashi, the umami soul of Japanese cooking. Tonkotsu, miso, and shoyu ramen sit alongside sashimi, temaki, gyoza, and Yakult-based mocktails that have become their own category.
